What to look forward to in NFL Week 16

NFL

Week 16 is the best week of the year in the regular season of the NFL. There are only two games this upcoming week that do not have a potential playoff team in it and those include Atlanta vs. Carolina and Denver vs. Oakland. This is the second week of Saturday games and both games include teams fighting for their playoff lives.

The Washington Redskins head into Nashville for an inter-conference showdown against the Titans and both teams are hoping to make a final push for the playoffs. Whichever team loses is sure to keep them from making the playoffs and these are two teams that would love the taste of football in January.

In the night game, Baltimore continues the fight for the division as they travel from coast-to-coast to visit the Los Angeles Chargers at Stubhub Center. This is a must win game for Baltimore as they still have the hopes of winning their division. If Baltimore wins out and the Steelers lose their last two games, the Ravens will win the division. If Pittsburgh wins one of the last two weeks, then they will clinch and that will leave Baltimore fighting for the 6th seed in the AFC.

Moving into Sunday, the matchup to watch at 1:00 PM Eastern is Houston vs. Philadelphia. No Carson Wentz means the lord and savior, Nick Foles, has risen for another run at the Super Bowl. Coming off an impressive win in Los Angeles on Monday night, the Eagles return home to Lincoln Financial to square off with the Texans. This game is pivotal for both teams; especially for Philadelphia.

Yes, if Houston wins and New England loses they will secure a first round bye in the playoffs, but if Philadelphia wins, it moves them one step closer to a wildcard spot or the division winner in the NFC East. In order to win the division, Philadelphia will have to win out, which means their record come season end will be 9-7. The Dallas Cowboys will then have to lose out as they have the tie breaker over the Eagles. If Dallas can win one game over the next two weeks, then they will clinch the division and the Eagles will be left fighting for a wildcard spot.

For the late games, make sure to find the Pittsburgh vs. New Orleans game and stay up for the Sunday night contest between Kansas City and Seattle. Pittsburgh is fighting for their division and New Orleans is fighting for the number one seed and home field advantage in the NFC. They can clinch that with a win and Los Angeles Rams loss this week.

For Kansas City, this is a must win game for them as they are tied for the division lead with the Chargers. If Los Angeles wins out and the Chiefs slip up and lose one of their last two, Kansas City will fall into the wildcard spot in the AFC and will be traveling on the road for all of their games in the playoffs.

For Seattle, this is a statement game. Coming off a tough overtime loss to division rival San Francisco in week 15, the Seahawks can create some noise around them with a strong win in primetime over Kansas City at home. Yes, there is no more legion of boom and people may have forgot how scary a place Seattle is to play in and what better way to remind the NFL of that than to beat one of the best teams in football this season. Not to mention that they can clinch a playoff berth win a win and either a Redskins or Vikings loss.

There is so much to look forward to in week 16 of the NFL and I hope that your team is still alive and has a shot of making the playoffs. If not… well, there is always next year, right?
