Since being cleared to return to the court after suffering a knee injury in the offseason, Walker has been playing with the G League's Austin Spurs as part of his continued rehab.
“Right now, we think it’s better for him to play instead of coming up here and watching us play for however many minutes," said head coach Gregg Popovich recently.
Walker suffered a meniscus tear during the team’s Silver and Black scrimmage on Oct. 3. He has appeared in five games for San Antonio’s G League affiliate, averaging 15.4 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 23.1 minutes per game.
Said Popovich, "For now, it (Austin) is probably the best place for him.”
Austin runs the same plays as in San Antonio and should help Walker learn the San Antonio's system while getting time on the court. Also, playing with Austin has helped accelerate the basketball development for Bryn Forbes, and Derrick White prior to them making their way to the San Antonio rotation this season.
