As the NBA trade deadline inches closer by the day, the biggest name on the trade market has been Anthony Davis. Davis has been heavily linked to a move to LA to play with LeBron and the Lakers, but the latest news suggests otherwise.
It’s been reported by multiple sources that the Pelicans are no longer considering trade offers from the LA Lakers. This comes days after the agent of Anthony Davis publicly announced that his client desires a trade away from New Orleans. Davis and LeBron James share the same agent, and the pair have been less than private about the possibility of Davis playing for the Lakers. This move by the Pelicans may be there way of getting back at the Lakers for having an influence of the future of Anthony Davis in New Orleans.
On top of the questionable recruiting tactics by the Lakers, the Pelicans weren’t blown away by the trade assets that the Lakers have at their disposal. There is not much logic in the Pelicans trading away Anthony Davis for Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and Lonzo Ball if they could get Jayson Tatum, Marcus Smart, and Terry Rozier instead. Since the Pelicans are going to lose Anthony Davis, it makes since for New Orleans to hear all offers for Davis, which would involve waiting until the summer to make a move.
If the Pelicans don’t trade Davis to the Lakers, it would take until the 2020-21 season for Laker fans to witness a LeBron James / Anthony Davis partnership. With LeBron being 35 by this time, it seems as if the AD to LA move would have to be now or never. With all of the star power set to hit free agency this summer, the Lakers have to win now, instead of wait an additional season.
