The Oklahoma City Thunder lost a tough one to the Clippers last night, 118-110. When the game ended, the Thunder’s best three players were not even on the court. Russell Westbrook, Paul George, and Steven Adams had all fouled out, forcing Paul George to speak up after the game.
The game was a tight one coming down the stretch, with the Clippers lead being cut down to just three points; but after Russell Westbrook and Paul George fouled out, the OKC offense faltered, and was unable to complete the comeback. George was forced to miss the last three and a half minutes of action, and had choice words for the officiating crew after the game.
When asked about the game in the post-match media scrum, George was not shy to voice his opinion, stating, “It's just bad officiating”. The Clippers went to the free throw line a whopping 46 times compared to OKC’s 26 free throws. OKC’s opponents have shot 93 free throws in the last two games, by far the most free throws conceded in that time span.
George wasn’t done talking down on the refs as he explained why opponents have seen so many free throws as of late. George expressed, “We don't get a fair whistle. We haven't gotten a fair whistle all year. ... Somebody's got to look into this. It's getting out of hand”.
With these combative comments, don’t be surprised if the small forward is hit with a fine for his actions.
With the loss, OKC falls behind the Rockets in the standings, taking the Thunder to fourth place in the west. The Thunder visit the Jazz next in a huge game in the Western Conference, as both teams continue to fight for postseason positioning as the regular season winds down.
