The Denver Nuggets took advantage of the Warriors night off, winning their game against the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night. Paul Millsap led all scorers in the game, dropping 33 points to go with his eight rebounds and three assists. Luka Doncic had another big game in his breakout rookie season. The small forward was an assist away from a triple double, scoring 24 points with 11 rebounds and nine assists.
Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic was just two assists away from another triple double, putting up 11 points, 14 rebounds, and eight assists. Jokic is putting together an MVP type season, especially considering the success of the Nuggets. Jokic is leading Denver in multiple categories, including scoring, assisting, and rebounding. Jokic is averaging 20.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 7.6 assists, along with 1.4 steals.
The win makes things in the Western Conference extremely interesting. The Nuggets are now 45-22, just one game behind the first place Golden State Warriors. Golden State has let their lead in the West slip away, losing five of their last 10 games. With difficult games coming up for the Warriors, the lead for the Western Conference seems to be in the air. The struggling Warriors will have to host the hunger Oklahoma City Thunder next, opening up the opportunity for Denver to tie Golden State at the top of the standings on Saturday.
