The Sacramento Kings beat the San Antonio Spurs on Monday by a score of 127-112. The win represented the 3rd W in a row for the Kings. Sacramento has won 4 of their last 5, and has themselves positioned in the 9th position in the standings, just 0.5 back from the 8th place Clippers, who are in the final playoff spot in the west.
With the winning run, the Kings have surpassed the LA Lakers in the standings, causing many in LA to begin to panic. Reports suggest that change may be coming to the Lakers very soon, with trades and coaching changes all being a possibility in the near future for LA. The Lakers are now in 10th and must act quickly if they are going to make a run for the playoffs this season. The 8th seed wouldn’t be an ideal position for the Lakers either. Whoever finishes the regular season in 8th place in the west will likely earn themselves a matchup with the Golden State Warriors. LA is 1.5 games back of 8th place, and 2.5 games back of 7th place, giving LeBron and the Lakers plenty to do in the last third of the season.
As for the Kings, the young core in Sacramento needs to keep the pressure on in the west. Third year guard Buddy Hield has been one of the most improved players of the season. Hield is scoring 5.9 points above his career average, dropping 20.4 points per game this season. Second year guard De'Aaron Fox has also improved since his rookie season, and is contributing 17.5 points of his own per game. This young core will be heavily tested in the coming weeks, with the Rockets, Nuggets, Warriors, and Thunder all on the scheduled within the next 6 games for Sacramento.
