If you have not been following the race for the playoffs in the Western Conference, it’s time to take a look at the standings. With about 10 games left to play, a number of powerhouse teams have yet to lock up their places in the Western Conference.

The Warriors are in the midst of a battle for first place in the West. As it stands, the Warriors have a slight, half-game lead over the Nuggets. Denver has the stronger remaining schedule, with the Nuggets still set to play the Rockets and Thunder next week. The Warriors have a slightly easier road to the end of the season, but will have to play the Nuggets before the end of the season.

On the other side of the Western Conference standings, the Oklahoma City Thunder are in a fight of their own. OKC is currently tied for eighth place in the West, and just a game back from the fifth and sixth place teams. OKC has to play the Rockets, Nuggets, Pacers, and Bucks before the end of the season, making it difficult for the Thunder to make moves in the standings.

Currently, OKC’s difficult remaining schedule has many projecting the Thunder to be in the eighth place position when the season ends. If the Warriors take care of business by locking up the first place position in the West, then star forward Kevin Durant could earn himself a matchup with his former team.

Make sure to keep tabs on the playoff race in the West as the NBA regular season nears its’ conclusion. WIth Paul George, Russell Westbrook and the explosive Thunder possibly squaring off with Steph Curry and Kevin Durant and the Warriors in the first round, the Western Conference Playoffs will be a must-watch event.
