Presently controversial All-Pro wideout Antonio Brown hasn’t had communications with coach Mike Tomlin or Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, but he can be seen all over social media, hanging over the shoulder of Steeler Legend James Harrison in a video in which Harrison says that their will soon be an exclusive interview between the pair.
James Harrison currently holds the record for sacks as a Steeler with 80.5 career sacks, and has played for coach Mike Tomlin as recently as the 2017 season. Harrison was released from his contract that same 2017 season due to lack of playing time, and he was later picked up by the Patriots in the same season.
Harrison is known to have an abrasive relationship with Tomlin, with Harrison having issues with many of Tomlins decisions in the waning years of Harrison’s Pittsburgh years. Interestingly, Antonio Brown is currently feuding with the Pittsburgh organization over the “alignment between Roethlisberger and Tomlin”. It would appear that Brown is disagreeing with Tomlin’s decisions, and has found an agreeing ally who he feels will support his case.
Another interesting detail that may have sparked this outrage from Brown is the fact that 2nd year breakout receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster won a team vote for PIttsburgh’s most valuable player award this year. Brown had a monster year, with more TD’s than any receiver this season in the league, but JuJu racked up the yards and moved the chains for the Steelers all year long, and had 7 more receptions and 200 more receiving yards on the year.
The combination of not making the playoffs and not winning any personal accolaids has more than likely frustrated Antonio Brown. He has registered yet another season with 100+ receptions and led the league in touchdowns, yet doesn’t get the love that his consistent greatness demands. This may be a temporary outburst for Brown, but if the Steelers do end up losing the All-Star, they have lost one of the greats at the position. Brown’s productivity has been nothing short of Hall of Fame numbers, and he doesn’t look like slowing down anytime soon.
Look for the Steelers front office to take care of this issue before the beginning of the season next year, with a trade or contract restructure and release being possibilities.
